IGN - Deal Alert: New Price Drop on 2022 Sony A80K 4K OLED TV Made for PS5 Gaming

Recommended Posts

Sony recently released its 2022 A80K Bravia XR series 4K OLED TV, catering specifically to PC and PS5 gamers. The A80K comes in three sizes (55", 65", and 75"), and is intended to compete against the 2022 LG C2 OLED TV. Sony's TVs have traditionally been pricier, but today Amazon has dropped the price of two of the sizes, making them less expensive than their LG C2 counterpart. There's only one caveat: you must be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of the discount.

Price Drop on the 2022 Sony A80K 55" and 65" 4K OLED TVs Specifically for PS5 and PC Gaming

The A80K is a true WOLED TV. OLED TVs are considered the best TVs you can buy right now. OLED offers better image quality, deeper blacks, better contrast ratio, wider color gamut, and super fast response times. Because this is a 2022 model, the A80K also sports the new Google smart TV interface which is, in our opinion, a big improvement over Android TV.

The A80K is marketed as a gaming TV and is host to several welcome gaming-centric features. It has a true 120Hz panel and two HDMI 2.1 ports for running 4K at 120Hz on a PS5, Xbox Series X, or RTX 30 series equipped PC. There's also native variable refresh rate (VRR), which is this TV's version of adaptive sync technology, as well as auto low latency mode (ALLM), which means that the TV automatically switches to a lower latency during gameplay.

Exclusive to higher end Sony TVs like this one is a feature catered specifically for the PS5 console called Auto HDR Tone Mapping. It works similarly to HGiG or Dolby Vision. Basically your PS5 will be able to identify your exact TV model and apply the optimized HDR settings specific to your TV, a sort of automatic HDR color calibration if you will. It takes out a lot of tweaking involved on your end (which most people tend to ignore completely) and thus offers a better HDR image out of the box.

Up to now, it has always been a bit perplexing to us why the best TVs for the PS5 console weren't made by Sony, since Sony is such a major player in the TV market. The A80K is a refreshing change from that sentiment; it's nice to see that Sony is finally delivering a TV that's actually designed to complement their own product.
